CREATE.   DISCOVER.   HEAL.

ABOUT

ARussell20200806-MK9A6304_edited_edited.

Welcome to San Antonio Art Therapy, LLC.  I'm Sara, founder, licensed professional counselor, and art therapist.  I have experienced the healing power of the creative process first hand. While I've always enjoyed making "creative things" it wasn't until college I first experienced how art was able to help me find healing and through difficult life experiences. You could call me a painter but my true joy is mixed media art -- finding new meanings through using non-traditional materials. I believe the process of making things is a fundamental part of how humans are wired and I seek to help others discover healing through creating.

EXPERIENCE & APPROACH

I've worked in a variety of settings including, inpatient and residential treatment centers, shelters, schools, continuing care retirement facilities and with community non-profit organizations. As a trauma-informed, attachment-based and person-centered clinician, I believe that you are the expert on you. I have a collaborative and casual therapeutic style and seek to create a warm, gentle, and supportive environment for clients to explore  and identify  patterns, reframe experiences, and foster new insights for growth. I hope that when our time is completed, you feel confident in your personal strengths, capable of making meaningful change, and connected to the resources needed to support you on your wellness journey.

  • TRAUMA-INFORMED   approaches recognize the impact of trauma on relationships, patterns of thinking, and beliefs about yourself and the world. This approach seeks to repair on the deepest level to create lasting change through safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment.

  • ATTACHMENT-BASED   approaches focus on processing interpersonal experiences, communications, and behaviors that may lead to avoidance or amplification of emotions based on reactions of past responses and relationships.

  • PERSON-CENTERED   therapy believes that each individual has the capacity for personal growth and the ability to make the changes that are right for you.
